Internship at TAAK/ Heterotropics

Heterotropics is a long-term curatorial project initiated by independent curator Sara Giannini and organized in collaboration with the international art platform TAAK. Conceived as an event series, it investigates the after-lives of colonial desire and exotic projection in the city of Amsterdam.
We are offering an internship from January 2017 (starting sooner could be possible too). You will assist with implementing the upcoming events and in particular with research, communication with partners, institutions and with the artists, production, PR and additional fund raising. The specific description will also depend on your fields of interest.

Heterotropics is a long-term curatorial project initiated by independent curator Sara Giannini and organized in collaboration with the international art platform TAAK. Conceived as an event series, it investigates the after-lives of colonial desire and exotic projection in the city of Amsterdam. Arising from the linguistic intimacy between “trope” and “tropic,” Heterotropics is a fictitious concept relating language, space and collective imagery. Over the course of a year, the project will facilitate and commission artistic and theoretical interventions in different locations and venues in Amsterdam.

Heterotropics has been launched on the 24th of September 2016 with an itinerant performance program across the Indische Buurt and Oostlijke Havengebied in Amsterdam Oost with interventions by Alex 2000 (NL) & Pauline Curnier Jardin (FR/NL), David Bernstein (US/BE) & Jokūbas Čižikas(LT/NL), and Jacopo Miliani (IT).

Future events will include a residency and experimental symposium by KUNCI Cultural Studies from Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Tropen Museum (May/June 2017), and the development of a new lecture performance by Luisa Ungar and Milena Bonilla which takes as a starting point the Amsterdam Colonial Exhibition of 188. (April) We are also planning smaller events such as reading or study groups.
