Friction(s) & Betrayal: Pushing the Boundaries of the Museum Profession
The Reinwardt Academy cordially invites you to attend the first Erfgoedarena (Heritage Arena) of 2019, which will address the various facets of the museum profession outside the museum sector.
As the museum sector has tremendously changed in the past decades, museologists have had to redefine their roles, in first instance, within the sector, but more and more outside the sector as well. Museum professionals have sought employment or freelance contracts in a variety of sectors outside the museum field such as corporate industry, social media and the entertainment sector. Organized by the students of our international master’s programme in Museology, this evening’s debate will focus around the questions: How can museologists use their skills and competencies outside the obvious museum or cultural heritage field? What professional and personal dilemmas do they encounter when doing so? At what expense can we push the boundaries of the museum profession?
Contributing professionals will include Demelza van der Maas (Collection Manager of the Heineken Foundation), Kathy Marchand (Bouwkate) and Carla Pratt (experienced museologist currently on the job market). They will share their views and experiences.
As usual, we will conclude the evening with drinks and the opportunity to network.
